It is important to talk about menopause. It is a natural mid-life transition, or in the case of premature menopause, foisted upon a woman (and individuals who do not identify as women but who have ovaries and/or womb) earlier than expected, due to surgery, chemoradiotherapy or biology. Menopause means, twelve months of no periods in women, who have a womb, and who aren’t using hormonal birth control or hormonal replacement therapy. In Australia the average age is 51 years. What a lot of people aren’t aware of, is the perimenopause, the time before the menopause, in which a woman is still menstruatingǂ but is experiencing symptoms of low oestrogen. These can include but are not limited to hot flushes, mood disturbances, dry vagina, aches, and pains etc. There are many ways we can help you, if you are struggling with your symptoms, and you don’t have to suffer in silence.
